Our history: 70 years and still feeling young

Our company has a history that deserves to be told.

When the Gelato Exhibition in Longarone took place for the first time in 1959, Bovo was one of the 18 bold companies which took the responsibility of promoting the real Italian gelato, arousing great interest on the machines specially designed and realized for its production and favoring their technical evolution.

The history of Bovo started 15 years earlier, when Mr. Bruno Pillon, railway man, decided to start the production of accessories and machines for the gelato with the help of some colleagues, using some cast iron pieces and other disused materials of the Italian state railways “Ferrovie dello Stato”.

And that is how Bruno realized the first ice-cream scoop, in a small workshop, with the only help of a manual printing press; this new product was immediately appreciated by all the “gelato migrants” who, returning home to Italy after a summer working season in Austria and Germany, used to stop at the small shops in Longarone to admire the latest products in the gelato field.

Soon the ice-cream scoop gave way to more complex machines that needed bigger spaces to be designed and assembled, and that is how in 1946 Bovo was born.

Craftsmanship and longing for innovation led Mr. Pillon to promote such innovations that his personal contribution was crucial for the evolution of the field. Yet the history of Bovo is not trapped in those moments captured on the sepia-tone pictures.

It is a history that renews itself, thanks to Claudio and Paolo, Bruno’s sons, and Matteo, his nephew, who continue producing their machines in the craftsmanlike way, adding to their traditional knowledge modern technology. In 2014 Bovo presents itself with a new look, new machines and new services and offers its customers a one-stop-shop, to meet the needs related to the development and the production of equipment customized for any gelato maker and pastry chef.
